Lawmakers and their family members are painting works of art to raise money to benefit children at Sandy Hook Elementary School. And we’ve got to say, while the congressional artists — including former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), Elizabeth Roskam, the wife of Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), and the husband of Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Chuck Blackburn — might not be the next Monet or Renoir, their paintings are très magnifique. Alumni from Newtown High School are banding together to form the Sandy Hook Arts Center for Kids (SHACK), aimed at helping children, victims, families and survivors heal through the arts. SHACK teamed up with the nonprofit Bear Givers, which donates teddy bears to children and adults in need, for an exhibit featuring artwork created by the children of Sandy Hook, along with that of celebrities and lawmakers. Proceeds from the sale of all the works of art will benefit SHACK. Lieberman and his granddaughter, Eden Migdal, donated a painting they co-created called “Watching the Windmill.”

Kevin Spacey is opening up about filming his villanous role as a fictional House Minority Whip in the Netflix series, “House of Cards.”
The actor, who is reportedly attending Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner as a guest of Bloomberg News, tells Capitol File for the magazine’s “Power” Issue” that the show’s first season was filmed in the middle of the 2012 presidential race: “I’d often get back to the hotel and turn on the TV, and think to myself, ‘Our story lines aren’t that crazy.’”

Sen. Patrick Leahy is poised to be among the thousands of guests attending Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but the Vermont Democrat says not to count on him stargazing while he’s there. “Oh, I’m not big on celebrities,” Leahy told ITK when asked if he was looking forward to meeting any particular red carpet regulars at the annual Hollywood-meets-D.C. schmoozefest. President Obama joked in an interview airing Wednesday that he and first lady Michelle Obama plan to prevent their daughters from getting tattoos by threatening to follow suit.
“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decided you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo in the same place. And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo,” Obama told the "Today Show." “And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that’s a good way to rebel.”

For Julia Louis-Dreyfus, there’s one particular perk to attending the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner — she can likely leave her days of photobombing the first lady behind. When ITK asked who the “Veep” star is most looking forward to seeing at the April 27 festivities at the Washington Hilton Hotel, she replied, “The Obamas, to begin with, of course.” The actress, who plays a fictional vice president and is attending the soiree as a guest of Time magazine, explained, “I’m always happy to see Michelle Obama, even if it’s from afar. I got a picture with her, but it wasn’t really ‘with’ her.”
