Any wishes for an Al Green and President Obama duet of “Let's Stay Together” will have to wait. A back injury is keeping the legendary singer from performing at a Tuesday night tribute to soul music at the White House.
“Al Green has suffered a back injury that will prevent him from traveling. It is an injury he has experienced before and a full recovery is expected,” J.R. Rich, Blue Note Records’ senior vice president of publicity said in a statement.
“He regrets he will not be able to perform before the president and first lady at this esteemed event.”

Beyonce and Jay-Z are getting more bipartisan grief for celebrating their wedding anniversary in Cuba. The top Republican and Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs panel on the Western Hemisphere sent the superstar couple a scathing letter on Tuesday accusing them of bolstering communist "propaganda." “Regardless of your intentions, your visit will clearly be used by the Castro regime as a propaganda tool,” the lawmakers wrote. “We are deeply disappointed with your decision to holiday on the island and thereby seeming to condone this oppression.” The letter goes on to rhetorically ask the couple if they're aware of a list of ongoing human-rights violations on the island. It was signed by Chairman Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.), ranking member Albio Sires (D-N.J.) and subcommittee member Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.).

Singer Angie Stone says she believes Michelle Obama could pull off her signature ’do.
“Oh yeah, she has an afro face,” said Stone before adding, “but I love the bangs on her.” The Grammy Award nominee has her doubts that the first lady would ever switch to the look, however, saying, “It’s too black for her. I think if Michelle Obama did the afro, the walls of D.C. would come falling down.” Wouldn’t the “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” singer be miffed if Obama swiped her hairstyle of choice? “No, everybody else did,” she replied with a sly smile. Stone, 51, says she’s put a lot of value in her locks over the years. If someone were to ask her, “Being a celebrity, what is the secret that could change your entire [career]?” she says the answer would be, “where I got my hair from.”

His hit single is called “Suit & Tie,” but Justin Timberlake opted for a decidedly more casual look Tuesday as he joined Michelle Obama and other musicians at the White House for a workshop celebrating soul music.
Donning a pullover and dark pants, Timberlake appeared relaxed at “Soulsville, USA: The History of Memphis Soul” while sitting on a makeshift stage in the State Dining Room before an audience of 120 middle and high-school students.
Flanked by Timberlake, along with Ben Harper, Mavis Staples, Sam Moore and Charlie Musselwhite, Obama said, “The White House is buzzing with excitement today.”
The first lady spoke briefly on the history of soul music, noting singers such as Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes. She then mentioned “somebody my husband thinks he sounds like — the Rev. Al Green.”
President Obama famously crooned a few lines from Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” during a fundraiser last year.
“Let’s just tell him he does [sound like Green], since he is the president. We have to boost him up a little bit,” his wife quipped.

A former colleague of Sen. Bob Corker knows one thing for certain — the Tennessee Republican hearts his charts. At the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress’s recent awards dinner honoring Corker and Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) at Washington’s Willard InterContinental Hotel, former Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) recalled his days of working with the lawmaker. Praising Corker, Warner said in a tribute video, “He just took off like a rocket. He was into everything, very inquisitive, very attentive.” He then added, “But what we all remember were the charts.”
