Former Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) is reportedly getting ready to tie the knot with his longtime partner. The ex-lawmaker, who retired in 2007, tells the Arizona Daily Star that he met teacher Hector Alfonso at a going-away party eight years ago. Since same-sex marriage isn’t legal in the Grand Canyon State, the pair is planning to say their “I dos” Saturday in Washington at a simple ceremony at Dupont Circle’s Cosmos Club. “We’re very happy,” Kolbe told the local paper. “We’re very committed.” Kolbe, 70, became the second openly gay Republican to serve in Congress when he came out in 1996.

Kal Penn is opening up about the time he spent working for the Obama administration — and he says he never took any heat for a scene in one of his films where he’s smoking marijuana with a faux President George W. Bush.
The “Harold and Kumar” actor first left Hollywood behind to work for the White House Office of Public Engagement in 2009. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Penn was asked about reaction from his colleagues at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. to a part in “Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay” in which he smokes a joint with an actor playing the 43rd president. “Actually, it’s funny — that question only comes up in interviews. Nobody brought that up [in the White House]. Everyone understands the difference between fact and fiction,” the 36-year-old entertainer replies.

Alex Trebek says it’s “kind of neat” to be considered the eighth most-trusted guy in the United States.
In a recent “Most Trusted People in America” survey by Reader’s Digest, the “Jeopardy!” host fared far better than some political figures. While Trebek took the No. 8 slot, President Obama placed at number 65. Former President Carter and first lady Michelle Obama came in 24th and 19th place, respectively. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ranked No. 51. ITK chatted with the veteran game show host at a Thursday dedication ceremony at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Trebek was on hand to donate some “Jeopardy!” artifacts for a new exhibit with the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences focused on daytime TV.

There will be a wolf roaming Capitol Hill on Wednesday, but officials are making its handlers keep the animal outside. Defenders of Wildlife planned to bring Atka, an arctic wolf, into the Rayburn House Office Building for an event, but the "sergeant at arms put the kibosh on having a wolf in the building," according to organizers. Shocker, we know.
