It’s a birthday trifecta in the Senate with not one, but three lawmakers marking the anniversaries of their births on Friday.
Among the upper chamber birthday boys: Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Sen. David Vitter (R-La.). Wyden, who is turning 64 come May 3, told us of the multiple celebrations: “I can’t say that Sen. Risch and Sen. Vitter and I have a birthday caucus.” But Wyden points out that he’s worked with both of his birthday brethren on bipartisan legislation. The senator, who has three kids under the age of six, says he and his wife only have one wish: “The best present Nancy and I can have is time with them, so we’ll see that that happens.”

Working on Capitol Hill can be like a game of “Survivor.”
That’s why Nicholas Balthazar says he penned The Capitol Hill Playbook: A Machiavellian Guide for Young Political Professionals. “I wanted to distill in a book all the things a person just starting out in politics would need to know to be successful and to survive,” he says. Balthazar, who wrote the just-released book under a pseudonym, is a congressional staffer. He was inspired to start writing the book two years ago when he noticed a young intern who didn’t have a mentor or anyone to guide her. He realized, much like the intern, that when he was starting out on Capitol Hill, he didn’t have someone to dole out advice.

Women are going under the knife in droves to get toned arms just like the first lady.
According to new statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the number of ladies opting for arm lifts has catapulted more than 4,000 percent in the last decade.
A news release from ASPS declares, “Doctors say there is no single reason behind the increase, though celebrities from the White House to the red carpet may be having an influence.”
A poll conducted for the group found that more and more women are eyeing the biceps of some of their favorite stars. ASPS writes that the poll indicates “women most admire the arms of first lady Michelle Obama.”

Rep. Jared Huffman’s been hard at work, clocking in on Capitol Hill by day and plucking a six string at night.
The California Democrat was gearing up over the past few weeks for his “Hootenanny” Tuesday fundraiser. The congressman has been getting in some jam sessions with his band for the music-filled event in Petaluma, Calif. Huffman even bought a new guitar for his Washington abode so he can practice his licks while in the nation’s capital. We hear he was practicing his twist on the James Taylor classic, “Carolina in My Mind,” switching up the lyrics to “Petaluma in My Mind.” Huffman Communications Director Paul Arden tells us while he hasn’t heard any sounds coming from his boss’s Longworth House Office Building work area — “Only legislating here,” he said — he does hold the lawmaker’s musical ability in high regard.
