House to extend FAA authorization to stop job furloughs

By Jay Heflin - 06/29/10 09:24 AM ET

The House on Tuesday is slated to vote on legislation extending aviation programs, taxes and expenditure authority through Aug. 1.

Without this short-term extension, the FAA's capital, research and airport grant programs would shut down after July 3, and several thousand FAA employees would be furloughed.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) and committee ranking member Dave Camp (R-Mich.) are the chief sponsors of the bill.
