Senate Republicans will meet to discuss earmarks

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters Tuesday that the Senate Republican Conference will meet Wednesday evening to discuss whether they will follow House Democrats and Republicans in a one-year ban on earmarks. 

The Senate appears less likely to follow the House, citing the role of Congress to determine how and where federal dollars are spent. 

McConnell wouldn't take a stance or predict the outcome of the meeting. 

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said today he wasn't inclined to reform the process much further or "stop Congressionally directed funding."

"We've done some significant things in reforming earmarks," he told reporters. "We have to be very very careful. We have an obligation to have Congressionally directed funding."
