Hundreds of amendments filed on Dodd financial overhaul

By Silla Brush - 03/19/10 04:00 PM ET

Senate Banking Committee members have submitted hundreds of amendments to a sweeping financial overhaul measure scheduled for markup on Monday.

The amendments were due Friday afternoon, and according to some tallies, there are several hundred on issues across the 1,336-page bill. One list of submitted amendments included such large changes as merging the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), a prospect that is all but certain to fail.

Staffers will be culling through amendments to decide which get collapsed into a more general manager's amendment and others that could be debated separately in committee.
