Senate to vote Thursday to end debate on Wall Street bill

By Silla Brush - 05/19/10 07:42 PM ET

The Senate will vote Thursday on whether to end debate on the Wall Street overhaul bill, after a similar vote failed Wednesday.

The measure to end debate failed Wednesday on a 57-42 vote. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced a second cloture vote for Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Maine Republicans Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins Wednesday joined all but two Democrats in voting to end debate on the measure and proceed to a final vote.

Democratic Sens. Maria Cantwell (Wash.) and Russ Feingold (Wis.) voted against the measure. Reid switched his vote to "no" to reserve the right to bring the measure up again quickly. Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) was absent.
