Obama debt panel co-chairman working on deficit-reduction video game

By Walter Alarkon - 04/13/10 05:49 PM ET

The co-chairman of President Barack Obama's fiscal commission is working on a video game to make plain what it would take to eliminate soaring deficits.

According to USA Today, Erskine Bowles has discussed with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer a new game "that would enable anyone with a computer to take a stab at balancing the budget."

Bowles, who crafted bipartisan deficit-reduction deals as President BIll Clinton's chief of staff in the mid-1990s, was chosen by Obama to lead a bipartisan group of lawmakers and economic experts that will try to produce proposals on how to cut the deficit to sustainable levels.

Bowles' video game wouldn't be the first about budget balancing; the fiscal watchdog Concord Coalition launched the web-based Federal Budget Challenge last year.
