"We have heard the issues facing small businesses and are being responsive. We do know that some businesses out there are not clearly addressed under coverage guidelines. We welcome Ken Feinberg's role in making tough decisions," he said.
Earlier this week, BP announced several changes aimed at speeding up claims payments, including an immediate action claims team.
Decisions on some business and individual claims will be deferred to Feinberg, including restaurants or tourism businesses not located in close proximity to an oiled beach or marsh, workers affected by the moratorium, seafood processors outside the Gulf Coast states and values of property not located in close proximity to a beach that was oiled.
Besides the deferral process, BP's new procedures include simplifying documentation requirements, easing requirements for start-up businesses to prove a loss and increasing the delegation of authority for adjusters.
