Sessions blast Democrats on extenders
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) on Friday blasted House Democratic leaders for giving his party very limited time to review provisions in the so-called tax extenders bill.
"We were provided with a copy of this bill at 9:06," he said, adding, "To date, this Congress and I believe the last one, has seen more back room deals, arm twisting and more partisan negotiations than ever before."
Session's comments kicked off the debate over the rule for the extenders bill, which was completed late last night and, according to congressman, has not been seen by many in the chamber.
"Nobody knows what we are getting ready to debate," he said.
He also criticized House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) for joking with reporters about making backroom deals, saying she replied "We're Democrats" when asked about the goings-on behind the scenes.
Slaughter took issue with Sessions' characterization, calling it an inaccurate account of the exchange between herself and reporters, during which The Hill was present.
Slaughter's "We're Democrats" comment was in response to a question about whether Democratic leaders would only bring the extender bill to the floor if they had the votes to pass it.
