Tax cuts jump in importance, poll finds
As the debate in Washington heats up over what to do about the Bush tax cuts, the issue is becoming more important with voters, Rasmussen Reports finds.
A national survey found that 68 percent of voters say taxes are very important.
The finding marks the highest level of interest on the issue since the organization began tracking it.
Still, taxes trail the economy (85 percent), government ethics and corruption (72 percent) and healthcare (70 percent) in importance.
Recent polling showed that 45 percent of voters prefer a candidate who opposes all tax hikes over those who would raise taxes on the wealthy.
The finding dovetails with Democrats who are concerned about allowing the top two brackets of the Bush tax cuts to expire at the end of the year.
