Community bankers urge passage of small-business legislation

The community banking group reiterated that the loan fund could provide as much as $300 billion in new credit to small businesses, which have struggled to gain access to credit.

"The nation’s nearly 8,000 community banks are prolific small business lenders with the community contacts and underwriting expertise to get credit flowing to the small business sector," Fine said in the letter.

The lending fund "is a bold, fresh proposal that would provide another option for community banks to leverage capital and expand small business credit," he said.
