Finance talks about bank tax

By Jay Heflin - 03/12/10 12:47 PM ET

Senate Finance staffers on Friday met with bank executives for informal discussions on creating a tax on banks, sources say.

Participants were expected to include representatives from the American Bank Association, SIFMA, and possibly executives from insurance companies.

What was discussed could not be ascertained, but earlier in the year President Obama charged Congress with the task of creating a fee that would stop financial firms from taking on too much risk.

This is a developing story.
