GOP to offer several amendments to Levin small business bill

By Jay Heflin - 03/16/10 04:54 PM ET

House Ways and Means Chairman Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) on Wednesday will mark up a small business tax bill that committee Republicans deem is misdirected. They plan to offer several amendments to refocus the legislation.

"Given that most of this bill is target at state and local governments instead of small businesses, we expect Republican Members will be offering a number of amendments," said a spokesman for ranking committee Republican Dave Camp (R-Mich.).

The spokesman did not offer a specific number on the amendments Republicans will offer.

Levin's bill, in part, exempts small business capital gains, but it also extends Build America Bonds that subsidize state and local construction projects.
