Cadillac tax thresholds contingent on rate of inflation

By Jay Heflin - 03/18/10 03:21 PM ET

Tax thresholds on high-end insurance plans contained in the health reform bill could be increased if there is a rapid increase in medical inflation, congressional sources said.

As it currently stands, amounts above $27,500 for family plans and $10,200 for individual plans will subjected to the tax in 2018. If premium costs accelerate beyond expectations these thresholds could be increased to safe guard against insurers raising rates too rapidly.
