Tea Party returns to Washington for Tax Day protest

By Jay Heflin - 04/06/10 09:20 AM ET

The Tea Party, the anti-tax, anti-big government movement, is planning a massive demonstration in Washington on April 15 to protest paying taxes that helped expand the role of the Federal government.

The deadline for filing Federal tax returns to the IRS is April 15.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to descend upon the capital in protest of the federal government spending billions of dollars to bailout failing companies and stimulate the economy.

Tax hikes included in the new healthcare law will also be in their sights, according to the National Taxpayers Union, a right-leaning group that is helping to organize the demonstration.

NTU will hold a Liberty Summit before the demonstration where elected officials are expected to discuss strategies for limiting the size of the government.
