Marron to take over Tax Policy Center

By Vicki Needham - 04/13/10 03:21 PM ET

Donald Marron, an economic adviser for President George W. Bush, will become the director of the Tax Policy Center, he announced Tuesday on his blog.

Marron, who also served as acting director of the Congressional Budget Office in 2006, will take over the job May 17 for Rosanne Altshuler, who is heading back to Rutgers University after nearly two years with the Tax Policy Center, according to a release.

TPC is an 8-year-old joint nonpartisan venture between the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution that provides analyses of the federal tax system.

"Understanding and helping address the nation's revenue problems require imaginative scholarship, crisp communication skills, and an insider's knowledge about how good public policy can be," said Robert Reischauer, president of the Urban Institute.  "Donald brings that and much more to the Tax Policy Center."

Since leaving the White House, Marron has been a visiting professor of public policy at Georgetown University. He holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center Debt Reduction Tax Force.

The center also has two co-directors, William Gale of Brookings and Eric Toder of the Urban Institute.
