Obama bills BP for $69 million
President Barack Obama on Thursday issued a $69 million bill to oil giant BP for response and recovery operations related to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The president will continue to bill the company to ensure that the federal Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund is fully reimbursed.
The current invoice is based on expenses incurred by the federal government, including outlays associated with the response of more than two dozen federal entities and agencies from three states that have been part of recovery and rescue efforts in the Gulf.
BP is financially responsible for all costs associated with the spill, including long-term recovery efforts to ensure that all individuals and communities affected by the spill are made whole.
Invoices from Obama do not include any other costs for which the oil giant and other responsible parties are liable.
