Few think stimulus helped, poll finds

By Jay Heflin - 07/02/10 04:18 PM ET

One-fourth of voters participating in a Rasmussen Reports poll believe the economic stimulus bill enacted in 2009 has helped create jobs.

The survey also found that 43 percent believe last year's bill hurt economic growth by adding to the deficit, and that 65 percent say decisions made by business owners seeking to grow their business will do more to create jobs than decisions made by government officials.

The survey was conducted on July 1, 2010, and tapped the opinion of 1,000 likely voters.

Recent polling by Rasmussen has found that the deficit is a concern among voters, with 82 percent of adults nationwide saying it is important to halve the deficit by 2013. However, only 18 percent of respondents are willing to pay higher taxes to accomplish the feat.
