House to vote on jobs bill next week

By Jay Heflin - 07/22/10 10:16 AM ET

House Ways and Means Chairman Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) said his chamber will vote on jobs legislation next week before adjourning for the August recess.

“We’re going to bring up jobs legislation again next week and we have to pay for it,” he said.

The bill will be a part of Democrats’ “Make it in America” agenda, a strategy that seeks to bolster the country’s manufacturing sector.

Levin did not provide specifics on the bill, but said provisions from past jobs bills that failed to advance could be incorporated in the new bill.

“The decision hasn’t been made on the package for next week,” he said. “I want the leadership to announce that.”

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) is scheduled later Thursday to join Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) and caucus chairman John Larson (D-Conn.) for a press conference on the agenda. But it is unclear if the event will discuss the bill by Levin.
