Landrieu seeks vehicle for expanding small business loans

By Jay Heflin - 04/02/10 08:36 AM ET

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) looks to include in the next jobs bill several provisions that would expand loan opportunities to small businesses.

The Chairwoman of the Senate Small Business Committee on Thursday circulated a letter to colleagues urging them to support her in this endeavor.

"I am writing to ask for your support on a package of small business measures that I would like to see become a part of any upcoming jobs bills in the Senate," Landrieu wrote.

Her proposals include raising the cap on Small Business Administration loans, streamlining the loan process, and improving loan opportunities to women.

The Senate Finance Committee is expected to take up a small business jobs bill in the near future. The legislation is expected to exempt small business investments from capital gains taxes. Landrieu's proposals could be added to this measure, Senate staffers told The Hill.
