Bill asks Hillary supporters to pony up and pay down wife's presidential bid

By Jay Heflin - 05/11/10 01:32 PM ET

Former President Bill Clinton circulated an email on Monday asking supporters to help pay down his wife's 2008 presidential campaign bid.

"Hillary's campaign still has a few vestiges of debt that I know she would like to see paid in full," his email states. "Will you reach out today to help Hillary this one last time?"

The email provides a link to donate to the campaign, but does not say how much the Secretary of State owes.

The most recent filing with the Federal Election Commission shows a deficit of $771,000, down from a debt of $5.9 million in Dec. 2008.

Contributors making a donation of $5 or more between now and May 18 are eligible to win a day with Bill.

"How would you like the chance to come up to New York and spend a day with me?" the email states.

The winner will be flown to New York, along with a quest, and hang out with the former president. The email does not mention if travel expenses are paid.

The email ends: Our lives are richer for knowing you.
