Law firm Venable hires former Fannie Mae official

By Rachel Leven - 01/10/12 01:04 PM ET

A former official at the mortgage giant Fannie Mae is joining the prominent law firm Venable as counsel.

Daniel Danello comes to Venable from Ropes & Gray, where he has worked since 2008.

“I look forward to helping Venable clients navigate the new regulatory landscape shaped by the Dodd-Frank Act,” Danello said in a statement announcing the move.

Prior to joining Ropes & Gray, Danello worked for 10 years as Fannie Mae’s associate general counsel to the treasurer on governance and compliance matters and transactions. He has also worked as senior assistant general counsel at Sallie Mae.

“[Danello] has an in-depth understanding of many Wall Street trades as well as the finer points of federal legislation and regulatory oversight governing the financial markets,” Venable partner Larry Gesner said in a statement.

“Dan brings an array of experience and expertise that complements our existing capabilities.”
