When he was vice president, we all gave Dick Cheney the nickname “Darth
Vader.” But little did we know how much he deserved the honor — until
now!
In his new memoir, Cheney proves he was, indeed, the dark force within
the Bush administration — and he’s damned proud of it, according to
excerpts revealed by The New York Times.
He attacks Colin Powell for being too squishy on Iraq, and admits he helped push Powell out of the administration after Bush’s reelection in 2004.
He also slams Condi Rice, accusing her of being hopelessly naïve in her approach to North Korea. And, of course, he defends the NSA’s tapping of domestic phone calls and the frequent use of waterboarding — both of which have been certified as flat-out illegal.
All in all, Cheney comes across as even more evil than we suspected. He never says it outright, but the underlying message of his memoirs is that he was smarter and stronger than George W. Bush — and that he, not Bush, was calling the shots and should have been president.
Now that’s a scary thought. Bush was bad enough. Cheney would have been far, far worse.
