So Many Vestiges, So Little Time to Abolish Them

Democrats — gotta love 'em. In their panic over a proposed ballot initiative in California that would reapportion the state’s electoral votes by congressional district, they’ve proposed their own ballot language that, had it been law during the 2004 presidential election, would have awarded all of the state’s electoral votes to … George W. Bush.
Why all the fuss over the Golden State? Well, as The Los Angeles Times points out today, for those who didn’t know, the state of California “has more electoral votes than any other and more than 10% of the electoral college’s 538.”
In a nutshell, what the Democrats propose is awarding all of California’s electoral votes to the candidate who wins the popular vote nationally. So in 2000, all the electoral votes would have gone to Al Gore. Oh wait — in 2000 all of California’s votes did go to Al Gore. Bad example. Let’s start over.
So in 2004, all the electoral votes would have gone to George W. Bush. Brilliant!
Reliving the nightmare of November 2000, which to this day causes liberals night sweats, the shakes and uncontrollable bed-wetting, Democratic strategist Chris Lehane told the Times, "A lot of people who lived through the 2000 election ... feel pretty strongly that we ought to have a national popular vote ... The electoral college is a vestige of another time period."
Other notable vestiges of times gone by that annoy liberals include: the Second Amendment, the Protestant work ethic and "Happy Days" reruns.
