Gore Leads Global Live Earth Concert

By Brent Budowsky - 03/21/07 06:43 AM ET
With Al Gore's testimony before Congress, the global-warming battle shifts into real action, in real time.

The oil-company lobbyists and contributors are holding out money and passing out talking points, but in the halls of Congress, and around the world, the forces for change are mobilizing. To those fed up with all that is wrong, don't get mad, get involved.

One of the major moments for organizing and communicating the cause will be the July 7 Live Earth concert. Anyone interested should go to its site, liveearth.org, and keep track of news and developments regarding the concert and the movement.

Live Earth will be broadcast across seven continents around the world and should reach close to 2 billion people. It will almost certainly be the largest music event in history, attracting a galaxy of entertainment superstars, and will surprise with corporate supporters who know that doing right is good for business.

The Live Earth concert will be a mobilization of people and ideas, artists who care, citizens who want to make the world a better place, businesses that want to invest in the future,, and political leaders from both parties.

There will be armies of grassroots activists, religious leadership who believe in the idea of stewardship in which each generation leaves a better world to its children, and the growing number of businesses who know the smart money is not the oil economy.

One of the most important trends is that Wall Street, Silicon Valley, hedge funds and average investors increasingly understand the future is coming, and the future is now.

Some enterprising K Street firms will discover they can do their corporate clients an enormous service by supporting this event and the cause it promotes. It won't be the oil and old energy lobbies, but virtually every other sector in business can be a stakeholder and beneficiary of the future.

Virtually all consumers and the overwhelming majority of non-oil business will be grand-slam winners, as the world moves away from the oil-based economy. What is good for the planet is good for the people. What is good for the future is good for the entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses who lead it.

In this war of the worlds, the old, corrupted, tired, backward and inefficient are destined to lose. They can have their anti-competitive monopolies, oligopolies, cartels, price-fixing, ripoffs at the pump, friendships with unsavory regimes, money that is siphoned to terrorists, oil-based gluttony that steals from our children and oil-based greed that gives windfall profits to Iranian mullahs.

Let them hand out their talking points and oppo research attacks, while we build the future and rally the world. Our America will lead and lift the aspirations and interests of generations, here and everywhere. The Live Earth concert will be an organizing and communications event of historic impact. It will bring together the mobilization of our leading entertainment superstars and the mobilization of countless good citizens in America and throughout the world.

As the battle escalates in the halls of Congress, the Live Earth concert will show how the high hopes and big dreams of the many will trump the small minds and greedy interests of the few, who have had far too much power for far too long. Those days will end.

The future is now.
