Conservatives Jealous of Bill Clinton

He may have been a poor man when he left the White House, but he’s a rich man now. The Washington Post reports that Bill Clinton has earned $40 million from speeches in the last six years — at $150,000 a clip. That makes him a very rich man, indeed, and that’s driving some conservatives nuts.
Right-wing blogs have been clucking non-stop over Clinton’s good fortune. They say it doesn’t look good for a former president to be making speeches for money. And, besides, it sets up all kinds on conflicts for his wife Hillary in the Senate today and, maybe, in the White House tomorrow.
Nonsense! I don’t remember conservatives being upset when Ronald Reagan got $2 million for just one speech, in Japan. Why’s it OK for a conservative to get rich, but not a liberal?
Besides, Bill Clinton earned that $40 million on only 20 percent of the speeches he made. The other 80 percent he either did pro bono, or gave the proceeds to his AIDS foundation. In other words, he’s not only making a lot of money. He’s doing a lot of good, by sharing the wealth, at the same time.
Let’s face it. Bill Clinton today is the most popular man on the planet. And, compared to George W. Bush, Clinton’s presidency looks better and better every day. And that explains it all. Conservatives are only upset with Bill Clinton for one reason: They’re jealous.
