AWOL McCain

By Dick Morris - 02/19/07 05:40 AM ET
The worst votes are the ones you don't cast. Whether you are pro- or anti-war, Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) absence from the Senate vote on Saturday will rankle deeply. Voters are not going to treat lightly his decision to campaign in Iowa rather than vote on the Senate floor on the close cloture motion on the anti-Iraq war resolution. Voters have this quaint notion that one should do one's day job before moonlighting trying for a promotion. Amid all the meaningless votes that the Senate casts each year, this one counted and John McCain was AWOL. He's going to have to eat that absence for breakfast as the campaign unfolds.
