Iran is a Ruse to take Eyes off Iraq — and set the Stage for Wider War

Perfect timing. The president holds a press conference when the country is engulfed in a blizzard, when Washington is paralyzed (doesn’t take much), schools are closed, government is opening two hours late, and reporters are ready for a slow day.
What do we get? Another shot at Iran for allowing weapons to penetrate into Iraq. Folks, Iraq has more weapons than Carter has liver pills — all the borders are sieves and we have been unable to identify and destroy more than a single large cache of bombs and weapons in the past year. They are everywhere.
We have done zip to find and attack the bomb factories in Iraq. So why suddenly does the president focus on Iran? If he knows where these are, why can’t he shut them down? If he knows who is manufacturing the suicide bombs and the roadside explosives, why can’t he take them out?
I don’t believe this president or the military advisers have any clue how to stop the flow of deadly weapons — a top military man said as much to me a few months ago. This is all a ruse to take the public's eye off the ball of a failed strategy and policy in Iraq. And to set the stage for a wider war in Iran.
