Barack Obama Should Not Apologize

Here we go again. Another presidential candidate sticks his foot in his mouth.
This time, it’s not Joe Biden. It’s Barack Obama, under fire for his comment, last weekend in Iowa, that the Iraq war “should never have been waged, and on which we’ve now spent $400 billion, and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted.”
It’s that phrase, lives “wasted,” that got Obama in trouble – and for which he’s now apologized – twice!
What I want to know is: What’s wrong with it? What’s wrong with telling the truth?
To say that American lives were senselessly wasted in Iraq is no slam on our troops. They’re real heroes. They’ve done a great job, putting their lives on the line every day — in a war many of them no longer believe in.
But it’s about time somebody told the truth about Iraq. Barack Obama’s right. The lives of those brave, young Americans have, indeed, been wasted. In a preemptive war that was not necessary, against a country that was no threat to the United States. In a war that has been mismanaged from the beginning, and that has accomplished nothing.
But, for all that, don’t blame Barack Obama. Blame George W. Bush, who started this war in the first place
