Massive Public Support for Action on Global Warming

By Dick Morris - 02/04/07 04:15 AM ET
The American public has decided that global warming exists and that it is partially caused by human activity. This overwhelming consensus is evident in the Fox News poll of January 30-31. Asked if global warming is taking place, Americans said it was by 82-10. Even Republicans said it was happening by 74-21. And is it caused by human activity, natural causes, or both? 41% said it was man-caused, 10% said it was naturally triggered, and 38% said both were at fault. So 79% reject the conservative contention that global warming is not caused by human activity. Even Republicans rejected that view; 30% said warming was exclusively caused by humans and 21% said it was due entirely to natural causes. But 42% said both were causes. So 72% of Republicans disagree with the right wing of their party which says that global warming is not caused by human activity and cannot be reduced by mitigating it.
