Good for Joe Biden

By Peter Fenn - 02/02/07 09:12 AM ET
I want to stand up for Joe Biden. I have liked him for 30 years. My old boss, Senator Frank Church (D) of Idaho, came back from campaigning for Joe in 1972 and told me how blown away he was by a 29-year-old, smart, articulate, caring, idealistic man, wise beyond his years. Joe has never become the typical Washington politician (if there is such a thing). He lives in Delaware, not Washington. He is grounded like few others.

Does Joe talk too much? Sure, but that’s why I love him — he doesn’t put his finger up to the political winds and measure every word. He screws up, like the rest of us. And he knows how to say he’s sorry and move on. Going on "The Daily Show," taking his lumps with his Irish sense of humor, and getting on top of his comments right away is the kind of guy Joe is.....no stewing for days, no meeting upon meeting about what to do, no polls or focus groups…..pick up the darn phone and apologize and move on.

One thing is for sure, this presidential race will be better off having Joe Biden doing some more talking!
