Son of Sharron Angle

By Brent Budowsky - 09/02/10 10:44 AM ET

As the Republican purge of serious candidates continues, and the Republican surge towards far-out extremism advances, it is now possible that Alaska will have two Democratic senators in the new Congress.

Sarah Palin, who trails Mitt Romney in a recent presidential poll of Alaskans, has gotten her wish of destroying the widely respected Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski. And Democrats, who never thought they had a chance to winning the Murkowski seat, are only beginning to learn the name of the Democratic nominee for the seat, Scott McAdams.

I dub Republican nominee Joe Miller the son of Sharron Angle, who attacks Harry Reid in the Nevada race by calling for the end of Social Security, attacking jobless workers and saying it is not the job of a senator to help create jobs.

Where do Republicans find these people?

Miller, like Angle, campaigns as the political equivalent of those strange space aliens that used to appear on “Star Trek.” They take weird positions on issues, far, far out on the distant right-wing fringe of the political universe, far out of touch with even traditional conservative Republicans.

We know a good deal about how Joe Miller campaigns, which is the way Sharron Angle campaigns.

We do not yet know how well Scott McAdams will campaign as the Democratic nominee. If he campaigns well, he has a real shot to win the seat.

Anyone but me notice that in North Carolina, Democrat Elaine Marshall is within striking range of Republican Sen. Richard Burr?

How about Jack Conway in Kentucky, gaining steam and within striking range of Republican nominee Rand Paul?

Of course, there is plenty of bad news out there for Democrats, but hold the phone, things are very volatile in all directions this year.

Meanwhile, Sharron Angle is the far-out fringe candidate of the far, far right, and Joe Miller is the son of Sharron Angle.

While Sarah Palin celebrates her conquest of Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney leads Palin in an Alaska presidential poll, and Sharron Angle continues her attacks on jobless workers, you heard it here, Alaska just might end up with two Democratic senators!
