One question for the Sarah Palins of the world on the BP oil spill

By Peter Fenn - 05/25/10 04:00 PM ET

OK, I am going to leave aside the constant “Drill, baby, drill” refrain, the love affair with oil companies, the anti-environment rhetoric from Sarah Palin and her Fox friends.

My one question to the anti-government Tea Party movement (and Sarah) — to all of you who believe government should just stay out of the way of business, remove those pesky regulations, get big government off of the backs of free enterprise — is:

Is it now time for Barack Obama and the federal government to become oil drillers, oil cappers, oil managers, even oil companies? Since your entire political philosophy has been based on keeping the government out of our lives, do you really now want to place blame on President Obama for not transforming the government into an oil company?

Or is this just a political ploy because you know how upset and scared and worried the American people are about this devastation, and you figure by railing against the president you can score political points?

Of course, harder to solve the problem, a lot easier to rail, to moan and groan, to point fingers.
