The gas tax holiday took a hit tonight, as Hillary Clinton got creamed in North Carolina and barely edged out a victory in Indiana. John McCain should learn this lesson, drop the idea and move on to talking about the deeper problem behind the steep increase in gas prices, which is the declining value of the dollar.
McCain and Clinton tried to tag-team Barack Obama on this issue. But that played to Obama's argument that he is the authentic candidate who is willing to speak truth to power.

When politicians raise taxes on corporations, they pass the extra costs on to consumers.
So when the Democrats decide they want to hike up taxes on oil companies, the oil companies will pass on that extra cost to consumers.
Maybe that is what the Democrats want to do. After all, Al Gore and countless other Democratic luminaries have long said that gas prices are too low.

What follows are thoughts from a good friend who leads a major automobile manufacturer in the U.S. This is worth reading by presidential candidates from both parties. Bottom line: We can attack global warming AND create new jobs in doing so.
There are so many things going wrong at once that all sections of the economy and all classes of society will be impacted. So many things have been unfunded and neglected for so many years that expectations are building fast, particularly in the field of healthcare and education. My fear is that traditional means to address them may be lacking in the coming years due to the economy.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Bowing to the demands of the environmental lobby and Al Gore, House Democrats passed historic legislation that mandates that each American citizen be carbon-neutral. Senate Democrats are expected to bring this bill up next week, and President Barack Obama has indicated that he will sign it.
The Be Green or Go to Jail Act imposes stiff fines on those who are not carbon-neutral. A person will be required to keep a log of all of his or her daily activities, from how many times he or she flushed the toilet to how he/she went to work to how many lights were turned on. The utility companies will be required to strictly monitor the output of each individual.

Al Gore, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Hagel, Mike Bloomberg, Sam Nunn, General Electric, Coca-Cola, DuPont, Johnson & Johnson, Nike, British Airways, Wall Street firms, venture capitalists galore, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and the armies of the progressive Internet are all part of the greening of America that will transform our politics and business in ways that will astonish and amaze those who are left behind.
The greening of America is about the liberation of and inspiration for an America that will soon be de-Bushed, in which major changes are already advancing and the negativity surrounding Bush will be receding until it finally disappears into the dustbin of history and the real America re-emerges when he is gone from government for good.
The greening of America involves a mindset of politics, business, culture, entertainment, technology and patriotism that will liberate and energize an American spirit that will be Prometheus unbound from a status quo that American voters, consumers, investors and business have already left behind.

It's time to get real. Let's ignore the politicians with their nibble-around-the-edges happy-talk "solutions" to our biggest problems, and let's talk about what it will actually take to solve them.
Why start with illegal immigration and try to ignore the bigoted hang-'em-high shamefulness of the Republican candidates? Maybe one answer is that employers need to offer wages that will attract citizens and others who are here legally. What they do now is fatten their profits by paying substandard amounts to undocumented laborers who are so desperate to stay hidden they'll accept any pittance they can get. Maybe by doing away with this shadow economy, the jobs that cause so many to sneak across the border will not be waiting for them.

It had to be the most preposterous segment in the history of cable television to witness Tucker Carlson say Al Gore and George Bush have much in common.
Granted, Tucker’s comments were sandwiched between the expressions of sneering contempt that he holds for Gore. Sadly, the guests on the show either lacked the intellectual firepower or minimal courage necessary to rebut this incredibly bizarre and laughable analysis from the host.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Friends of the Earth and All Other Regions (FEAR) today announced a campaign to ban all electricity use by human beings.
“Electricity is a silent killer. It’s dirty, dangerous and destructive,” said Joseph Kennedy V, “and it is high time that we take this last step to get back to nature.”
This follows FEAR’s successful campaign to get rid of coal-based electricity, nuclear-based electricity, wind-based electricity and solar-powered electricity.

We are all doomed.
Environmental activists and scientists have joined with religious prophets (usually seen on cable television) to put the final nail in the coffin of humanity.
Soon you will see them all join that longhaired, bearded guy on the corner who has the sign “The End is Near.”
But both scientists and the televangelists differ from the bearded guy in one important respect. The environmentalangelists (to coin a new phrase) have a pathway to redemption, where the bearded guy just lets you know that we are all doomed.

What the hell does global warming have to do with world peace? That’s what a lot of people are asking, ever since Al Gore was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
And, of course, that’s just what the Nobel Prize committee wanted. That’s one of the reasons they honored Al Gore in the first place. They want people to face the disastrous consequences of global warming — by talking about Al Gore.
