Healthcare nightmare awaits?

By Armstrong Williams - 03/30/12 09:01 AM ET

If the Supreme Court declares the individual mandate in ObamaCare unconstitutional, can it sever the mandate from the remainder of the bill?

If it can’t, the entire legislation is declared null and void. If this is the eventual outcome, Congress must commence from ground zero again.

If the mandate isn’t severed, the United States has an incredible healthcare nightmare that awaits. For example, the provision requiring insurance companies to sell health insurance to those with pre-existing conditions will significantly increase the cost of their policies. This cost increase will drive healthy individuals out of the insurance market.

This in turn will drive prices much more and cause a death spiral for insurance companies.
