No, Lamar, Obama ain’t no Nixon

By Bill Press - 10/22/09 10:33 AM ET

Hey, wait a minute. This is really getting nasty.

It’s OK for Republicans to compare President Barack Obama to Hitler, but now they’ve gone too far. Now they’re comparing him to Richard Nixon. That’s over the line.

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) was the first, accusing Obama of preparing his own “enemies list” because of critical comments made by White House aides about Fox News — and because, Alexander says, Obama’s not willing to work with Republicans.

Which is not only silly, it’s stupid. Obama doesn’t have an enemies list. Fox News has the enemies list. And there’s only one name on it: Barack Obama.

And no Democratic president has done more to reach out to Republicans than Obama — only to be stabbed in the back, time and time again.

Speaking of being stabbed in the back. Judd Gregg — yes, the same Sen. Gregg (R-N.H.) whom Obama once named Commerce secretary — that Judd Gregg then stepped up to the mic and, using a newly minted political smear, accused Obama of “Nixon-fying” the White House.

Does Gregg forget? Nixon broke the law. He would have gone to jail had he not been pardoned by Gerry Ford.

No, Obama’s not “Nixon-fying” the White House, whatever that means. But Alexander and Gregg are “Beck-afying” the Senate. Like Glenn Beck, they sound like a couple of cry-babies.

Bill Press, you are such a funny guy. Yes, it is Fox New's fault. Obama has no enemies list (well, except for anyone who disagrees with the white house that is). Where were you during the campaign? Remember Joe the Plumber? You know the guy who had the nerve to stand in HIS OWN yard and ask the chosen one a question? "Journalists" like you (who average American's continue to mistake for Obama cheerleaders) could not wait to get with some low level (and low life) government officials and violate Joe's rights in order to dig dirt up on him?No enemies list? Right. That's why Rahm Emmanuel and David Axelrod have jobs with this administration. Are there two BIGGER Chicago political thugs available? Forgive us for not relying on "real" journalists like you who would forgive this administration anything short of axe murder (and then it would depend on who they murdered). Yes, no one has been more bi-partisan than the Greatest President ever and his mop speeches. Save it for the re-election campaign there Bill.BY Patrick Michael on 10/22/2009 at 12:08
"And no Democratic president has done more to reach out the Republicans that Obama"It seems like everything I read and everywhere I look (internet, newspapers, mainstream media) it is all pushing and propigating left wing idealism. Where is this outreach to Republicans that you speak of? I feel like I have yet to see any kind of centric views from Mr. Obama..BY HUH? on 10/22/2009 at 12:12
Bill Press' articles aren't worth reading.BY bobc on 10/22/2009 at 12:16
Huh? To answer your question President Obama has not yet outlawed Republicans or vetoed speaking to any (except those who may work for the Chamber of Commerce or Fox News). Of course since the White House just started this system of boycotts and blackmail (yes, the whitehouse - isn't that sad?) this weekend I would stay tuned (but if you watch Fox, don't let anybody know!!)BY Patrick Michael on 10/22/2009 at 12:17
Ha, ha, ha! Bill told a big, fat, joke! "And no Democratic president has done more to reach out to Republicans than Obama ."Ha, ha, ha! What a riot!!!BY Ruby2sday on 10/22/2009 at 12:21
Mr. Press is part of the ever growing humor at The Hill Pundit's Blog area. According to him, nothing is ever Obama's fault, responsibility or problem. In essence, Mr. Press and the rest of the journalistic army of sycophants don't regard Obama as a grown up. In fact, Obama has reduced himself to the role of the pestilent child featured in a Twilight Zone episode with Bill Mumy called "It's a Good Life." If Obama and his evil doers in the White House don't like you, they simply wish, along with Mr. Press, that you would vanish. What a charming group.BY Robert Rosencrans on 10/22/2009 at 12:21
"sound like a couple of cry-babies" Now Bill, give credit where credit is due. That phrase was originally used by Mike Wallace to describe the White House's refusal to appear on Fox New's during Saturation Sunday. I'm not sure but I think that White House was mad that day because Fox News showed some clip of Obama and removed the 'halo' that Anita Dunn had superimposed over Obama's head. Just joking, but when it happens, you heard it here first!!!!!BY Patrick Michael on 10/22/2009 at 12:23
The modern right in this country is increasingly living in a hyperbolic chamber. Democrat=tax-n-spend?…Obama=Hitler?…Funded Counseling=Death Panel?? Now criticism of the media is labelled as preparing "an enemies list". I mean seriously, like the right hasn't been targeting media "enemies" since Reagan (let alone Nixon…).BY Karl on 10/22/2009 at 12:48
Dear Mr. Press, I suggest President Obama has broken the law by refusing to enforce the federal law on possession/distribution of marijuana for medicinal purposes. If the law is outdated/illadvised or wrong then change it, but ignoring it is irresponsible on his part. It establishes a dangerous precedent. There are two other branches of government for a very good reason. Sorry to be off topic.BY jadedfellow on 10/22/2009 at 12:54
