One for the swamp

By Armstrong Williams - 11/02/09 01:38 PM ET

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi came to power with a pledge to “drain the swamp” of what she called the Republican “culture of corruption.”

Yet Pelosi has been shockingly silent when it comes to the current House ethics committee investigations of several lawmakers — mostly Democrats — who allegedly steered hundreds of millions of dollars in federal earmarks to clients of an influential lobbying group, which in turn lined the legislators’ coffers with millions of dollars in campaign contributions.

The investigation coincides with a probe into alleged financial improprieties by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), including cheating on his taxes.

Where, one wonders, is Ms. Pelosi’s righteous rhetoric when her cronies are the ones committing fraud?

Not surprisingly, Pelosi has refused calls to censure or even boot Rangel from his powerful post as the Ways and Means Committee chairman. So much for her tough talk about fighting the culture of sleaze. Chalk one up for the swamp.

ArmstrongStop it, you know that they all are going to protect each other when the rubber meets the road. The entire system is corrupt and the place just oozes with ripe fruit to steal without the asking.BY Dave Hamlin on 11/02/2009 at 15:13
Mostly accurate Dave. However, the expression "People who live in glass houses should not throw stones" comes to mind concerning Pelosi's pledge.BY Kathryn on 11/03/2009 at 09:05
The dems love crooks look at some of them; Frank, Dodd, Waters, Murtha, Rangel, Feinstein, Boxer, and others that is why we need term limits; ONE TERM OF FOUR YEARS WITH NO GRANDFATHER CLAUSE, SERVED FOUR YEARS YOUR OUT, NO RETIREMENT EXCEPT FOR SOCIAL SECURITY, NO GRANDFATHER CLAUSE AND NO FREE HEALTH CARE AND IF THEY PASS A HEALTH CARE BILL THERE ON IT! That way if a crook gets into office there out in four years not hanging around for twenty or thirty years and getting pensions of over 150K!BY William on 11/03/2009 at 11:51
