The winner of the 2009 elections is: Ron Paul!

By Brent Budowsky - 11/03/09 08:29 AM ET

Forget the spin and the slop. The real winner of the 2009 elections is the public official and candidate who has championed the core insurgency driving the election. It is Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul.

Paul embodies the anti-Washington, anti-tax, anti-big government, anti-financial insiderism viewpoints that are galvanizing large numbers of activists and voters. It is not a majority, but a majority has never been Ron Paul's goal. Paul is a conviction politician, an idea man, an advocate and a change agent.

The Democratic spin is that the Republicans have moved much too far to the right. This is true in a sense. But remember, Democratic smarties said the same thing before Ronald Reagan was elected and before Newt and Republicans won in 1994.

I agree with some things Paul says, and disagree with others, but the truth of the matter, politically, is that his agenda has moved center stage and his people are highly motivated and this is a serious movement that is underestimated and misunderstood by Washington insiders.

What Democrats need to do is forget the PR and forget the spin and do what they were elected to do in 2006 and 2008. They should fight for a progressive populist agenda that takes on the powerful interests that have given us this Gilded Age, interests that a majority of Americans from the political left and independent center are both against.

But for now, for today, my take is forget the smarties and forget the smoothies, because the real winner of the 2009 elections is the gentleman from Texas, Mr. Ron Paul.

Rom Paul is indeed the voice of the people! WE THE PEOPLE will take the country back from the self serving, deaf and dumb and put the Constitution back in its rightful place!BY rick jones on 11/03/2009 at 10:14
What elected Democrats in 2006 and 2008 was George W. Bush. Now that he's not around, they are not sure where they are going. Their liberal friends in media have all become irrelevant. Tonight Obama would lose 3:0 and it would be the beginning of the end of "Hope and Change" non-sense and Marxism that this country was toying with for the last 18 months. Enough is enough.BY Bzdashek on 11/03/2009 at 10:16
Ron Paul was indeed the winner of the 2009 elections. Prior to running for Office very few people knew his name, but today he is a household name. He has almost daily appearances on the news circuit. As the article points out, his ideas and goals have become mainstream. The predictions Ron Paul made during the election have come true and people have woken up and realized that while he was speaking the truth, the MSM was distorting reality and downplaying the man and his campaign. People now realize that Ron Paul is not a kook, fringe or lunatic and that it's really not too crazy of an idea to believe in freedom, individual responsibility and a limited government.I am fully supportive of a Ron Paul 2012 run!BY RonPaulFan on 11/03/2009 at 10:37

Congressman Ron Paul was drafted to run for president in 2007 and I say the draft to get him to run in 2012 should get going in full swing right now! Normally I'm opposed to long elections, and they've only gotten longer and longer in recent years, but this country desperately needs a leader like Ron Paul in the White House.National Debt and Spending are out of control. The pointless Wars we are in have no end in sight regardless of who is in power and the Dollar is getting destroyed by the Federal Reserve. America can't take much more of these abuses, we need Ron Paul's leadership to clean up D.C.BY Aaron on 11/03/2009 at 11:57
