Big wet Fox kiss for Rush Limbaugh

By Bill Press - 11/02/09 08:56 AM ET

If there were still any question whether Fox News might be a legitimate news operation, there is no longer. With Sunday’s sycophantic interview of Rush Limbaugh by Chris Wallace, they proved yet again that they offer little more, even on their news shows, than pure partisan propaganda.

Wallace is a great journalist. He’s earned his stripes. He prides himself on asking tough questions of anybody. Except Rush Limbaugh. In this interview, Wallace did nothing but kiss Limbaugh’s butt.

Among the “tough” questions he lobbed at the Big Talker:

“You have now taken to calling Mr. Obama the man-child president. What does that mean?”

Or: “This week it will be one year since Barack Obama was elected president. In that time, what has he done for and to the country?”

And then there was this shocker: “I think you’re a great broadcaster. How can you possibly be worth that kind of money?”

At which point, you expected Wallace suddenly to end the interview, ask Rush for his autograph, and give him a big hug.

But, to be fair, we can’t be too hard on Chris Wallace. He was only following orders. Since Fox News is the official Republican Party Network, and since Rush Limbaugh is the head of the Republican Party, of course he was going to get special treatment on Fox.

After all, you wouldn’t expect the official Vatican newspaper to say anything critical about the pope, would you?

I watched 12 minutes worth and couldn't stand it any longer. Thank you Fox for reminding me again of who you really are.BY Jeff W on 11/02/2009 at 10:10
Gee Chris Wallace's questions sound almost as bad as Harry Smith asking the Greatest President ever "Where did you learn to love" talk about a man-love moment, so I suppose Bill Press is right, all of these so called media outlets who loose all objectivity (kind of like Bill Press) should be called out as Political pawns, right or left (again kind of like Bill Press)BY Patrick Michael on 11/02/2009 at 10:16
An interview of a RADICAL right wing nut is not news to mainstream America. We all knew already what this blowhard thinks. Rush said he felt like he was in the "trenches" how could a chickenhawk like him or Cheney possibly know how that feels. Its just like my dad always said the bigger the mouth the bigger the yellow streak…BY McGeno on 11/02/2009 at 11:08
I loved the interview with Rush ——- what a pleasure to hear this man answer questions with honesty and integrity. The libs cannot stand the fact that he makes so much sense to the American people. How can you not agree that the prez is doing so much damage to the country so far that we must not let him inflict any more. Cannot wait for the election results, then you will start seeing the downfall of this administration.BY Patricia W on 11/02/2009 at 11:08

I suppose this is to be a "Gotcha!" type article. One should not forget that the other networks are not immune to this behavior as well! Such as "Inside the Obama WH" with Brian Williams, the whole "thrill going up my leg" bit from Matthews, and Harry Smith's interview. Therefore, MSNBC, NBC, CBS are also just as illegitimate…BY Kathryn on 11/02/2009 at 11:36
I enjoyed the Interview and not sure what some of these on this comment blog are saying. You are never happy no matter what. I beleive this intereview was no different then Interviewes the President did on other shows - if you want FOX to be tough on Rush, then CNN, ABC, CBS and MSNBC needs to be Tough on those they choose to Interview. You can't have it both ways…BY Nan on 11/02/2009 at 13:24
Wrong way Bill strikes again. While Mr. Press sits on liberal channels with other liberal pundits, massaging each others thoughts, Mr. Press can't stand it, that one radio talk show host told the truth about the President which is something journalists should do. Mr. Press forgot all about journalism years ago.BY Robert Rosencrans on 11/02/2009 at 14:13
We were so glad when Bill Press left the LA area. We used to say, no one can be that bloody misinformed.BY Bruce on 11/02/2009 at 14:51
