The Idle Mind

Some random thoughts:

The uproar over passport backlogs misses the point: Not only are our leaders trying to make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to get into this country, now they want to make it tougher for CITIZENS to get in.

If the importance of party affiliation continues to decline, would a Richardson-Tancredo ticket be tough to beat?

It was nice to see that video about a new campaign song, featuring candidate Bill Clinton and his wife. Oh. Was that a mistake?

I gotta tell you: Chris Matthews is not the only one putting "s--t" on television. Not by a long s--t.

Have you been following the story of that Texas TV station that's putting that great-looking, completely inexperienced model on as a news anchor? I'm missing something. What's unusual about that?

Given the pure hell that air travel has become, all airports should be required to post a "Dante Warning" at their entrances: "Abandon hope all ye who enter here".

In fact, why would anyone who absolutely doesn't have to suffer the abuse of flying anywhere this summer? Why not drive somewhere?

With gasoline prices so high, why does anyone drive anywhere?

There's an ad in the Washington Post for waterfront property ... page A-14. It shows a boat racing along near the coastline. But in the fine print below, it reads, "Pictures shown may not be representative of the community. No federal agency has judged the merits or value, if any, of this property." I'm thinking maybe campaign promises should come with that kind of disclaimer.

As I listen to the ads for pharmaceuticals on TV, the side effects they describe scare the hell out of me. Will they advertise prescription drugs to treat the side effects?

I obviously need to take my meds.
