Obama’s inappropriate interview at the Super Bowl

By Bernie Quigley - 02/08/10 10:05 AM ET

The Tea Party Convention in Nashville on Saturday night was funky and alive. And what a contrast to the formulaic and phony interview with President Barack Obama — a government/network joint-venture infomercial really — that Katie Couric and CBS interjected inappropriately into the Super Bowl pre-game programming.

Coach Bill Cowher’s deeply moving interview with Plaxico Burress in prison talking about the birth of his daughter was far more to the spirit of the day. And how interesting was the Kafkaesque halftime show of crazy old men, once thought to be oh so very revolutionary a lifetime ago? The gods take the great ones like John Lennon, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain young so they don’t play Super Bowls in later life.

I wonder if Fox would have been able to find someone from our lifetimes, from our century, from our millennium and maybe even from our country on what amounts to a national holiday. Beyonce and Taylor Swift come naturally to mind.
