Sunlight Foundation live-blogs the White House healthcare summit

By Craig Newmark - 02/25/10 09:58 AM ET

I think we all want to see some accountability coming from the summit, and I'm hopeful, since we've seen that disinformation like "death panels" can be openly confronted.

Also, we'd like to see where lobbyist and related money goes and what happens with it. That's the whole transparency thing the current White House and the Sunlight Foundation are about. (Disclaimer: I'm on their board.)

The deal is that you can watch the summit video, along with real-time live-blogging by people who really know their stuff, specifically regarding healthcare reform and also how influence is bought in politics.

Here's the deal:

We're calling it Sunlight Live and it's going to bring together live blogging by our policy experts, Twitter conversations from across the country and relevant facts on congressional members in attendance at the Summit. Some of the things you can expect to see displayed on Sunlight Live as the politicians debate are campaign contributions that the person speaking has received, their connections to lobbyists and industry, personal finances, and key votes that the leaders have made on health care in the past.

We'll also be coming up with new ideas throughout the day. We won't know everything we'll want to do until we hear what our leaders have to say.

The idea behind this is that we want to provide a greater understanding of why the elected officials have staked out their positions on health care, and let the data do more of the the talking.

We're going to be going from the Summit's beginning at 10:00 a.m. to whenever it ends (perhaps as late as 6:00 p.m.)
