I want to admire our president

I am tortured. I want to admire President Barack Obama. With his calm, measured voice and warm smile, I want to bask in his oven of love.

So help me understand. What, precisely, is there to admire about this president's policy decisions? The administration has poured $787 billion into economic stimulus. But where are the jobs? In February, the administration promised that the stimulus package would give an immediate boost to the economy. Since then, the economy has contracted and Americans have lost nearly 3 million jobs. What has the stimulus package done other than steal trillions of dollars from the taxpayers and sow unmanageable debt into the economy for decades to come?

Moreover, the protectionist provisions in that bailout engendered harsh retaliation against our export industry, effectively destroying U.S. jobs. The administration’s healthcare proposal represents more of the same. At bottom, the proposed overhaul would effect a government takeover of the entire healthcare industry. Do we really trust the government to run an industry that is equivalent to one-sixth of American gross domestic product?

Look at the way that the government has mismanaged Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid systems; even the Post Office and Amtrak, which is subsidized by taxpayers. A government takeover of the healthcare industry is not a financially sustainable solution. We cannot create yet another expensive new entitlement program that will saddle our children and grandchildren with more debt.

At bottom, the Obama administration does not trust the American people. By advocating for government takeovers of our biggest industries, Obama’s policies are essentially socialist. Not only are his signature policies contrary to the abiding lessons of our free-market history, they risk bankrupting the entire nation.

Again, I want to admire the leadership of President Obama. But what is there about these policies to admire, respect or appreciate? Can anyone share with me policies that our president is initiating that will enhance and grow this U.S economy? Please help this tortured soul!
