New sanctions target Iranian nuclear and missile programs

The organizations are at the center of Iran’s continued proliferation activities, the agency said. Those designated Thursday include companies used in Iran’s efforts to “clandestinely ship illicit cargo around the world, including to Syria,” the department said.

Also among those targeted is Reza Mozaffarinia Hosein MODAFL’s deputy defense minister and Dean of Malek Ashtar University. Treasury said Hosein is responsible for significant contributions to Iran’s missile program, as well as companies and individuals supporting Iran’s nuclear program.

“As long as Iran continues to pursue a nuclear and ballistic missile program in defiance of multiple U.N. Security Council Resolutions, the U.S. will target and disrupt those involved in Iran’s illicit activities,” said Treasury Under Secretary David S. Cohen.

The sanctions announced Thursday also prohibit Americans from doing business with any of the designated individuals or firms. A complete list is available here.
