News bites: Sen. Warren raises profile as regulator watchdog

By Ben Goad - 03/08/13 09:59 AM ET

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is taking aim at financial regulators from her perch on the Senate Banking Committee, The Detroit Free Press reports.

Her crusade was evidenced Thursday during a heated hearing before the panel, according to The Hill’s On the Money blog.

The Washington Post reports that the Obama administration is considering whether it has the executive authority to extend its targeted killing program to al Qaeda offshoots.

Furlough notices are starting to fly in Washington, where more than a million federal workers could face unpaid leave thanks to the sequester cuts, according to the Post. U.S. Customs Border Protection employees started getting their notices Thursday.
