Spring and summer filing deadlines will be pushed back to September 30.

"The tax relief is part of a coordinated federal response to the damage caused by these storms and is based on local damage assessments by [the Federal Emergency Management Agency]," the IRS said in a statement.

People affected by major disasters can sometimes get reprieve from their tax duties to rebuild and recover. After the Boston Marathon bombings in April, the IRS delayed Tax Day for residents of Suffolk County, Mass., including the city of Boston.

"The IRS is actively monitoring the situation and will provide additional relief if needed," it added.
