News bites: Regulators increase scrutiny on Boeing 'Dreamliner' battery

By Ben Goad - 01/30/13 08:57 AM ET

The National Transportation Safety Board is performing "microscopic examinations" on the battery that led the airplane to be grounded, The Hill's Transportation blog reports.

Meanwhile, the U.S. regulator is asking Boeing for a full operating history of the batteries in question, according to The Associated Press.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a report finding lettuce and and other leafy vegetables are the largest source of food-borne illness, The Wall Street Journal reports. The finding comes as federal regulators weigh a pair of sweeping new food-safety rules.

A federal court has lifted Louis A. DeNaples's lifetime banking ban, and blasted regulators for "bizarre," "untenable" and "scattershot" enforcement of the law, according to the Scranton Times Tribune.
