Republican lawmaker launches website to help small businesses track onerous regs

By Ben Goad - 01/31/13 12:34 PM ET

House Small Business Committee Chairman San Graves says he wants to make it easier for companies without the cash to hire their own D.C. lobbyist to track and comment on rules making their way through the regulatory pipeline.

Graves (R-Mo.) is launching a website called Small Biz Reg Watch (no association with this blog), which contains descriptions of upcoming bills that could raise the cost of doing business and links, allowing visitors to formally weigh in.

“Most small businesses don’t have lawyers or lobbyists who focus on regulatory compliance, like larger corporations may have,” Graves said. “Not all regulations are bad, but many can be unnecessarily burdensome and it is important that small companies express their concerns before a rule is finalized.”

Small businesses pay regulatory compliance costs that are 36 percent higher than large businesses, Graves said.
